HAVRIX 720 Vaccine Dubai — Hepatitis A Vaccination at Home | 420 AED | DHA-Licensed Physicians

Medically Reviewed by: Dr. Mauada, MD, MBBS — DHA-Licensed Physician. 3,000+ vaccination sessions administered across Dubai. Reviewed in accordance with WHO Hepatitis A Position Paper. Last updated: April 2026.

What Is the HAVRIX 720 Vaccine Dubai?

The HAVRIX 720 vaccine Dubai is a single-dose injectable hepatitis A vaccination for children, administered by DHA-licensed physicians at your home, hotel, or clinic across Dubai with same-day appointments. Manufactured by GSK (GlaxoSmithKline), HAVRIX 720 Junior is the paediatric formulation containing 720 ELISA Units (EL.U.) of inactivated hepatitis A virus (strain HM175) in a 0.5 mL intramuscular injection — delivering greater than 99% seroconversion in children one month after the primary dose. No queues, no waiting rooms, no disruption to your child's schedule.

Dr. Mauada, DHA-Licensed Physician: "Most of our HAVRIX 720 bookings are for children travelling with families to India, Pakistan, Egypt, or Sub-Saharan Africa. Hepatitis A is entirely preventable — and because the UAE's improved sanitation means many children have no natural immunity, vaccination before travel is essential."

Who Should Get the HAVRIX 720 Vaccine in Dubai?

The UAE, with its improved sanitation and socioeconomic status, has seen decreased seroprevalence of hepatitis A and an increased average age of infection — meaning many Dubai residents, especially children raised here, have no natural immunity and are fully susceptible. HAVRIX 720 Junior is recommended for all children and adolescents aged 1 to 15 years at risk of hepatitis A virus (HAV) exposure.

The following groups present most frequently at our Dubai practice:

Children travelling to South Asia, Southeast Asia, or Africa — highest hepatitis A risk destinations for Dubai families. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Egypt carry substantial HAV exposure risk through food and water.

Dubai expat children visiting family in endemic regions — children born and raised in the UAE often lack natural immunity that previous generations acquired through exposure.

Children aged 1 year and above for school travel programmes — many international schools in Dubai require documented HAV vaccination for educational trips abroad.

Pilgrims performing Hajj or Umrah — mass gatherings, shared accommodation, and variable food safety make hepatitis A vaccination strongly advisable for children accompanying families.

Children with chronic liver disease — hepatitis A infection can severely compromise pre-existing liver conditions; vaccination is especially important in this group.

Children whose parents or household contacts have hepatitis A — close household exposure significantly elevates transmission risk.

Previously vaccinated children due for their booster — the primary dose requires a booster at 6 to 12 months for long-term protection extending potentially 25+ years.

Healthcare and school staff with occupational exposure risk — DHA occupational health guidelines may require documented HAV vaccination.

What Is Inside the HAVRIX 720 Formulation?

Each 0.5 mL dose of HAVRIX 720 Junior contains 720 ELISA Units of inactivated hepatitis A virus, produced on human diploid MRC-5 cells and adsorbed on aluminium hydroxide (0.25 mg Al³). It is a non-live, inactivated vaccine — the virus cannot cause hepatitis A infection.

ComponentRole
Inactivated HAV (720 EL.U.)Active antigen — stimulates anti-HAV antibody production
Aluminium Hydroxide (0.25 mg)Adjuvant — enhances and prolongs immune response
Amino AcidsStabiliser
Polysorbate 20Excipient
Phosphate Buffers (Disodium/Monopotassium Phosphate)pH stability
Sodium Chloride, Potassium ChlorideIsotonic buffer

Neomycin Sulphate (residual, <10 ng)From manufacturing process

HAVRIX 720 contains no thiomersal, no latex, and no live virus. The vaccine is a slightly opaque white suspension.

How Does the HAVRIX 720 Vaccine Work?

HAVRIX 720 works by introducing the immune system to an inactivated (killed) form of the hepatitis A virus. This triggers the production of specific anti-HAV IgG antibodies — circulating immune proteins that recognise and neutralise the live virus on future exposure, preventing infection from taking hold in the liver.

Because the antigen is adsorbed onto an aluminium hydroxide adjuvant, the immune response is both enhanced and prolonged compared to a plain antigen alone. In clinical studies involving children aged 1 to 18 years, specific antibodies against HAV were detected in more than 93% of vaccinees at day 15, and in 99% of vaccinees one month following administration of the primary HAVRIX 720 dose.

Hepatitis A does not lead to chronic infection, but can cause acute liver failure and other serious complications, accounting for approximately 34,000 deaths globally each year. Vaccination before travel to endemic regions eliminates this risk entirely for the vast majority of vaccinated children.

What Happens at Your HAVRIX 720 Session in Dubai?

Before: DHA-licensed physician screens your child's medical history, medications, known allergies (including neomycin), prior hepatitis A vaccination dates, and any co-administered travel vaccines required for the same trip.

During (10–15 minutes): Nurse or physician attends your home, hotel, or office. HAVRIX 720 administered as a 0.5 mL intramuscular injection into the deltoid (upper arm) for older children, or into the anterolateral thigh for younger children whose deltoid is not yet fully developed. Certificate issued same visit.

Frequently Asked Questions — HAVRIX 720 Vaccine Dubai

Does my child need a hepatitis A vaccine before travelling from Dubai? Yes — particularly for travel to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, and Sub-Saharan Africa. HAV vaccination is not currently included in the UAE's National Immunization Programme, meaning many Dubai-raised children have no existing immunity. Pre-travel HAVRIX 720 vaccination is strongly recommended at least two weeks before departure.

How long before travel should my child get the hepatitis A vaccine in Dubai? At least two weeks before departure — to allow full protective antibody levels to develop. Same-day hepatitis A vaccination is available in Dubai for last-minute travellers; initial antibody production begins within 7 to 15 days.

Can HAVRIX 720 be combined with other travel vaccines in one visit? Yes. HAVRIX can be co-administered with typhoid, yellow fever, cholera (injectable), tetanus, and combination MMR and varicella vaccines in a single pre-travel visit. Your DHA-licensed physician plans your child's full travel vaccination schedule at consultation.

Is one dose of HAVRIX 720 enough? The single primary dose provides strong protection (99% seroconversion at one month) and is sufficient before travel. However, a booster dose at 6 to 12 months after the primary is required to consolidate protection lasting 25 or more years. Without the booster, immunity is likely to wane over time.

Does HAVRIX 720 protect against hepatitis B? No. HAVRIX 720 protects only against hepatitis A virus. Hepatitis B is a separate infection requiring its own vaccine (ENGERIX-B or TWINRIX). Your physician can advise on combined Hepatitis A+B vaccination schedules if appropriate.

Is HAVRIX 720 safe for immunocompromised children? Yes — HAVRIX 720 is non-live and suitable for immunocompromised patients, unlike live attenuated vaccines. A reduced antibody response may occur in some immunocompromised individuals; physician assessment is recommended.

Can adults receive HAVRIX 720? HAVRIX 720 Junior is licensed for children and adolescents aged 1 to 15 years. Adults aged 16 and over require HAVRIX 1440, the adult formulation — available at the same at-home service. Your physician will confirm the appropriate formulation.
