What Is the HAVRIX 1440 Vaccine Dubai?

HAVRIX 1440 Vaccine Dubai is the adult formulation of the Hepatitis A vaccine manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). It contains 1,440 ELISA Units (EL.U.) of inactivated Hepatitis A virus (strain HM175) in a 1.0 mL intramuscular injection and is indicated for adults and adolescents aged 16 years and above.

HAVRIX 1440 is a non-live vaccine that provides highly effective protection against Hepatitis A, a viral infection that affects the liver and is commonly spread through contaminated food, water, and close personal contact.

Our DHA-licensed physicians administer HAVRIX 1440 directly at your home, hotel, office, or residence anywhere in Dubai, with same-day appointments available.

Dr. Mauada, DHA-Licensed Physician:
"Many adults in Dubai were never vaccinated against Hepatitis A and may have no natural immunity. This is particularly important for travellers visiting India, Pakistan, Egypt, Southeast Asia, Africa, and other endemic regions where Hepatitis A exposure remains common."

Vaccine Overview

HAVRIX 1440 is an inactivated Hepatitis A vaccine that stimulates the body's immune system to produce protective antibodies against the Hepatitis A virus.

The vaccine is widely used globally and is recommended by:

• World Health Organization (WHO)
• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
• European Medicines Agency (EMA)
• Dubai Health Authority (DHA)

Following vaccination, the body develops protective antibodies that help prevent future Hepatitis A infection.

What Is Hepatitis A?

Hepatitis A is a highly contagious viral liver infection caused by the Hepatitis A Virus (HAV).

Unlike Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, Hepatitis A does not usually become chronic. However, it can cause severe illness, prolonged recovery, hospitalization, and in rare cases acute liver failure.

The infection remains common in many parts of Asia, Africa, South America, and the Middle East.

Causes of Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A infection occurs through ingestion of contaminated food, water, or direct contact with an infected person.

Common causes include:

• Contaminated food and beverages
• Poor hand hygiene
• International travel to endemic countries
• Household exposure to infected individuals
• Consuming raw or undercooked shellfish
• Exposure during community outbreaks
• Crowded living conditions with poor sanitation
• Sexual contact with an infected person

Symptoms of Hepatitis A

Symptoms typically appear 15–50 days after exposure.

Common symptoms include:

• Fever
• Fatigue
• Weakness
• Loss of appetite
• Nausea and vomiting
• Abdominal discomfort
• Dark urine
• Pale stools
• Joint pain
• Jaundice (yellowing of eyes and skin)

Some infected individuals may have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all.

Complications of Hepatitis A

While most patients recover fully, serious complications may occur.

Potential complications include:

Acute liver failure

Prolonged hepatitis lasting several months

Hospitalization due to severe dehydration

Cholestatic hepatitis

Relapsing hepatitis

Increased mortality in older adults

Severe complications in patients with chronic liver disease

Temporary inability to work or travel

Vaccination remains the most effective method of prevention.
